Pick the soft bristles.  They do not wear down enamel the way that harder bristles do.

I use the Eco-Dent toothbrushes found at crunchy health food stores.  Instead of replacing an entire toothbrush every few months and filling up landfills, you just replace the bristle heads.  What will those hippies think of next?!</description>
